Topaz
The name topaz comes from Topazios, the name of
the Island of Zabargad in the Red Sea. The color of yellow
topaz symbolized Ra, the god of the sun to the Egyptians. Topaz
has been worn as an amulet to protect against evils, to
strengthen intellect, and prevent bad dreams. It was also said
if you wore topaz you would be invisible, beautiful,
intelligent, and have a long life. Topaz was also a cure of
asthma, insomnia, burns, and hemorrhage when used in its
powdered form in wine. All of these powers could come and go
with the changes of the moon.
